PCCA Workshop - Basics of Residential Construction Drawings

The ability to read construction drawings is a foundational skill in the code enforcement and construction industries. Code officials, whether they are working in the field performing inspections or in the office performing plan reviews, must know how to read and interpret construction drawings. This session is designed to introduce the fundamentals of construction drawings through lecture and interactive learning exercises. The exercises are designed to test attendee skill level and knowledge.

After attending this program, attendees will be able to:

  1. Discuss the fundamental concepts needed to review construction drawings in residential construction including basic terminology.
  2. Review construction drawings to locate project and trade information, scale, and other critical notes.
  3. Examine, locate, and interpret scale on drawings using example drawings and manual methods.
  4. Understand the role and importance of construction details, including standard details and plan-specific details.
