2017 DOE Race to Zero Competition
The PHRC is supporting a student team to compete in the 2017 US Department of Energy (DOE) Race to Zero Student Design Competition.
This year 50 teams across the United States and Canada are competing in the 2017 competition, which will be held April 22-23, 2017 at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) in Golden, CO.
The competition challenges and inspires the next generation of building science professionals to design an affordable, net zero energy home that meets DOE’s Zero Energy Ready Home guidelines.
The current Race to Zero team is working in collaboration with the Centre County Housing & Land Trust (CCHLT) and representatives from Ferguson Township on an attached housing design as part of the affordable workforce housing component of a large mixed use development in Ferguson Township, approximately 1.5 miles from the Penn State University Park campus.
Team members include graduate and undergraduate students in Architecture, Architectural Engineering, and Energy Engineering.
Team travel support is generously provided this year by the West Penn Power Sustainable Energy Fund (WPPSEF).
